THE IMPORTANCE OF VOCAL TRAINING
Now I am no Vocal Coach and to be honest I wouldn’t know how to teach anybody else how to sing. I do know however that if you’re serious about becoming a professional Wedding Singer you’ll need to spend time not only preparing your voice (initially), but in regularly training your voice so that you are ready to perform on the stage! After all you wouldn’t expect a professional athlete to just turn up for competitions without any prior training? Well it’s basically the same principle with your voice.
FIND A GOOD VOCAL COACH
To get yourself started you could simply go out and buy the latest vocal training book and use an accompanying CD to take yourself through the various exercises and principles, however I think that by having an experienced Vocal Coach present, to give you real-time feedback and correct mistakes is much more valuable. You can use Yellow Pages or Google to search your local area for a good Vocal Coach. Alternatively try this Vocal Coach directory.
TIPS FOR LOOKING AFTER YOUR VOICE
Here are some quick tips taken from an article on www.vocalist.org.uk to help you prepare your vocal chords for singing and prevent damage:
- Warm-up your voice prior to singing, using some proper breathing and humming exercises.
- Keep your vocal chords lubricated always by drinking lots of water throughout the day.
- Know your limits. In other words try not to stretch your voice too high or too low.
- Try not to talk for extended periods of time throughout the day, especially over loud noises.
- Avoid whispering as this can be very bad for your vocal chords.
I’ll keep you posted with more on Becoming a Wedding Singer soon. In the mean time have fun!
