Wedding DJ Playlist – July 2010

I recorded the following sample of my DJ Playlist from an evening wedding reception in Christchurch just over a week ago. It was a fairly young audience and from the wedding music requests given I got an idea of the sorts of songs to concentrate on.

The song order shows how I mixed them on the night and contains the guest’s requests (Marked in bold)

WEDDING DJS – THE OLD AND THE NEW

CHEESY DJS COULD BE A THING OF THE PAST!

Finally the day has dawned on the stereotypical loud, Mickey taking, cheesy DJ! The new style of DJ-ing is far more acceptable to wedding couples. The new DJ’s style concentrates on the music rather than the ego.

It’s not only the person behind the decks that has changed but the whole look. Gone are the star cloths, square music screens and the Disco Traffic Lights. Now most Wedding DJs will have state of the art equipment which will include the very latest in sound technology not to mention sleek, funky lights that don’t take over the whole dance floor. The new look is to keep bells and whistles to a minimum and provide a spectacular wedding music show to keep your wedding guests entertained until the early hours!

WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR IN YOUR WEDDING DJ

Unlike the old, new Wedding DJ’s will also encourage brides and grooms to choose their own music to ensure their evening wedding entertainment is exactly how they want it. When I got married 6 years ago the DJ I booked would not accept a few suggested songs from me as he felt I didn’t know what I wanted!! WEDDING RECEPTION MUSIC

I’ve recorded the following DJ playlist from one of our wedding gigs in Kent – May 2009. It contains some of the wedding music played before wedding singer Luca’s second evening show and also from about 10.00 pm – 11.30 pm. It also includes the bride and groom’s last dance choice - ‘Have you ever been in love’ by Céline Dion. The order of the songs here is how I mixed them on the night and contain any special requests by the wedding party (Marked in bold).

ABOUT THIS DJ PLAYLIST

This is certainly a DJ playlist for the 90’s lovers and not really suited to people who aren’t fond of this era, however i did also try to include other material in order to involve the rest of the wedding party. I have to say having grown up with 90’s music myself it was nice to hear a lot of the old school tracks. If you look towards the end of the playlist you’ll see how it very gradually slows down in pace through the songs I’ve chosen. I prefer to slow it down gradually as I don’t like the way some Wedding DJs bring things to an abrupt halt at the end of the night, leaving wedding guests a little stunned.

I really enjoyed this music here and it made a nice change to be able to steer away from the typical Wedding DJ playlist.
