TIPS FOR CHOOSING MUSIC REQUESTS

MUSIC REQUESTS

Choosing music requests, whether it be party music or wedding music, can be a little more difficult and time consuming than you first may anticipate. After months or even years of planning the perfect event you don’t want to give yourself an extra headache when it comes to choosing your music.

Here are 5 quick tips to consider when choosing the party or wedding music requests, before handing the list over to your Singer or DJ:

5 GREAT MUSIC REQUEST TIPS

  1. Always consider your guests. That’s if you like them of course! :) Which I am sure you do. Some people like to hand out an invitation with space for their guests to write their own favourite song requests.
  2. Keep the majority of the requests uplifting/ upbeat. The pace of the music will dictate the mood of your guests and ultimately the end result. Typically you only need a few love songs for the end and maybe the beginning of the night, so I would keep about 90% of the music upbeat if you can help it.
  3. Take your time. By giving yourself as much time as possible you will be able to come up with your TRUE favourites. it’s very hard when put on the spot to remember all of the kinds of music you like. What you might want to do is keep a notepad handy from the very start of your planning, then just scribble down anything that you hear over time that takes your fancy. If you have an iphone the Shazam app is great for identifying and noting down songs you like.
  4. Do it as a couple or as a group. It’s can sometimes be easier to remember your favourite music when talking with loved ones or friends. By sharing your favourite music you can remind someone of theirs, and vice versa.
  5. Have fun. The last thing your Singer or DJ wants is to add and extra chore to your diary, so please have fun when choosing your favourites. You can make a night of it with your friends, inviting them over for a few drinks and maybe getting your music collection out – though be prepared for some Mickey taking!

  1. As a manager of a Birmingham banquet facility I cannot agree more. Some weddings have so many dancers the floor can hardly fit them all. Others seem like everyone is sleeping! The songs make all the difference and the biggest thing is making the songs appeal to the guests. Ask your friends to stop over or set up a list on your wedding planning blog to obtain a list of the most popular and then edit it for the DJ!
